let it snow

I've been making lots of these snowflakes, for the Christmas ornament swap, for presents and for the Auckland art and craft fair this weekend. They are crocheted and then stiffened with a fabric stiffener. I'm hoping that there will be a few left over to hang up here at home. I have however put a couple aside to offer as a giveaway to you dear blog readers! I'll draw one overseas winner and one NZ winner and send each a snowflake and perhaps a few other little treats too. Just leave a comment on this post and say what country you are from (and perhaps what your favourite holiday tradition is?) and I'll pop you in the draw. You don't have to have a blog to enter either. I'll draw the names on Monday, hopefully giving the overseas winner a chance to hang their snowflake before Christmas!

  1. This is a kiwi fan radioing in from Beijing, China where we put our Christmas tree up tonight and listened to carols. Our favourite traditions are the children's nativity play (chaos and joy and wayward sheep!) and midnight mass - can't sing O Come All Ye Faithful by candlelight without getting a little emotional. We've had the first snow of winter here, but it is almost all melted despite being -8 here today!

    Love your blog by the way...

  2. My sister use to crochet little shoes to give away to the bride at weddings, I'm sure she stiffened hers with a strong solution of sugar and water. They were as stiff as cardboard and looked fantastic. So do yours by the way.

  6. ooo, i am not going to be able to make it to the fair tomorrow but have been admiring your snowflakes. Beautiful. I am new to christmas so developing meaningful traditions and one i love very much is our solstice fairy house and fairies....we make them new little furniture and things each year and it's magic to unpack them each year. They live under the tree you know!

  7. Hi Louanna I was popping in to say that my lovely parcel arrived here in North Wales and I am over the moon with my necklace and the beautiful bag it came in! I feel almost greedy to want to enter your giveaway but that snowflake is sooo tempting....my favourite Holiday tradition is celebrating our wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve, it gives us a whole extra day to enjoy! :D

  8. Wow! Those are absolutely stunning.
    You know that I'm in New Zealand, and my favourite thing about Christmas is that my sister often comes home from london to share it with us. Christmas without her is just not the same, and it's always the highlight of the season for me (and of the whole year, actually!). It really is all about family.

  9. Those snowflakes are simply beautiful - I am from good ol' New Zealand and my favourite holiday tradition is putting up the christmas lights and sitting with all the usual lights out and just watching them twinkle!!! I really enjoy your blog and look forward to your postings. Good luck with the fair this weekend - wish I lived in Auckland to come visit it and say hello. Best wishes, Julie :-)

  11. Sadly I missed a chance to meet you yesterday at the fair. I was working with my husband's company until 3am the previous night and slept in until midday. That was the first time in five years though. I hope you had a great day yesterday at the fair.

    I think your snowflakes are gorgeous.

    Merry Christmas to you and your sweet family.

  12. I forgot to say I'm from Waitakere in Auckland and that we are big on creating tradition in our house.
    This year we are building a nativity scene up slowly over the month. Starting with blue silk, a star, rock, angel, stable, hay, Mary Joseph and their Donkey, and finally with the little baby Jesus. My four year loves the story (my verbal rendition) and how it grows with the scenery. She will be super excited when her favourite "Baby Lord Jesus" (as she calls him) comes to the stable for Christmas morning.

  13. Whoops, I nearly didn't enter! Totally thought I had! Well done on a successful market day, I completely forgot to go! Whoops! Oh well, as we are saving our pennies for the move, maybe a good thing...

    My favourite part of Christmas is Christmas eve. Sitting in the livingroom in our jammies with the lights off and candles on, singing carols with the littlies and helping them put things out for santa. Then waiting till they're fast asleep and transforming the room with presents and candycanes, and nibbles out of cookies etc... Yep, love Christmas!
